Higher hearts unlock recipes, shop discounts and story beats that make the town feel lived-in. Gifts are the fastest way to raise friendship, and each villager has specific loved gifts.

How to Find Loved Gifts

The best approach is to learn two or three favorites for the villagers you like, then hand them over on birthdays for a friendship spike. Talk to villagers daily and experiment to discover what they love.

For romance candidates, hearts rise through the 2, 4, 6 and 8 heart events, and the 1.0 update raises the cap to 10 hearts with marriage. Friendship with everyone pays off whether or not you're looking for a spouse.
